Okapied intends to help people find comfortable holiday accommodations all over the world. The application is still growing, but promises to offer a helpful service. User can visit the site and search for specific destinations by keyword. Okapied presents the user with an image and all the details they need for each accommodation listed. These include, the type, how many people the location sleeps, how many bedrooms are included as well as a general description or overview of the property. Users can post ratings and reviews when visiting one of the locations found on Okapied. The site also shows the user all available dates and allows users to book their stay online through Okapied. Users are also invited to list their rental property on Okapied so users can find it and possibly reserve a stay.
Okapied was created in 2011. The concept was born out of need identified by its creators. Many resources exist that help internet users find a place to stay while on vacation, however not all offer the same features and quick response times. The creators of Okapied wanted to give travelers more options when booking online.
Okapied.com was shut down in 2012.
In reality, the service offered by Okapied is not unique. There are many other travel websites that offer a diverse collection of hotel and rental property booking services. Recent sites usually include online booking tools, schedules and other features that are found on Okapied. The site is also still growing, so it is extremely limited in the locations it covers. The site currently lists just one bed and breakfast in the United States as well as one or two in London, Germany and France.
Okapied.com uses a simple design. The logo features a realistic horse or zebra creature that peers over its shoulder under the site name in black. A large search tool bar is found across the top of the homepage. Rental property listings include the location details along the right side as well as overall ratings in percentages. A large color image is found to the right with a description just below it. To the left of the description, users can find a light grey box with property features and to the right is a small calendar that allows the user to check availability. Overall the site looks outdated and there are only a few holiday rentals available.
Visitors can browse Okapied’s rental properties without signing up. Those who wish to actually rent a location or list theirs as available must click the blue “Sign Up!” link found in the upper, right hand corner of the page. The following page contains the registration form which asks for a username, first and last name, Paypal email address and password. The user must also check a box at the bottom of the form to confirm their agreement with the Okapied terms and conditions.
Okapied offers accounts to all users for free. There are no subscription fees required to search for or list rental properties on the site. The only expense associated with Okapied is a 7% fee which is charged when a rental property is booked. Other than that, the user can access all listings and features on the site at no cost.
Okapied.com could help property owners rent out their vacation homes and apartments. It is also intended to help travelers find fitting accommodations online. The website shows some promise, although it seems to be seriously lacking in listings. A few from Australian and other countries are available at this time. This will likely change as the site grows. The site is not as user friendly as some of its competitors.
